After researching motivation for quite a while now, here are three ways you can tap into motivation instantly at will.
This is how you hack your brain to stay motivated.
Hack NO: 1
In a research experiment, experimenters took 3 guys and put them into different temperature water tubs (with their heads above water): warm, moderately cold, and cold water.
Then, when they took them out after 5 minutes, they noticed a significant change in their dopamine levels - which indicates their motivation.
The person who had been in the extremely cold water experienced a 250% boost in their dopamine level.
And not only that, this rise in dopamine didn’t drop for a straight 2 hours.
So when you get tired of work, or just not feeling motivated to do it - Take a Cold Bath.
Hack NO: 2
We are constantly pursuing things that are more stimulating to us.
It’s because of a part in our brain called the nucleus accumbens.
For this reason, scrolling between work sessions, getting interrupted by someone, or even listening to music can be deadlier than you can imagine.
Because when our mind gets hijacked by these shiny things, the nucleus accumbens in our brain wants to cling onto that pleasurable activity rather than go back to working.
But there’s a way to turn that into our favor.
When you do the exact opposite of this, like instead of scrolling between breaks, you sit there silently, your brain wouldn’t be able to handle it and will suck you back into work.
Train yourself deliberately to do this. When you constantly stay bored, things like working that were previously boring to you suddenly become interesting.
Here’s a tip: In breaks between work, rather than doing anything else, just stare at a wall. And you’d be amazed to see the results.
Hack NO: 3
In another experiment, they would give electrical shocks to the subjects. The experimenters would start by rapidly increasing the shock’s voltage.
And after they finally decreased the voltage to a normal level, the shock that was previously described as painful by the subjects evoked a sense of pleasure in them.
According to scientists, the amount of pleasure you feel is directly related to the pain you experience.
Remember the dopamine increase in the cold bath? Well, it wasn’t really the cold bath but the pain that influenced the dopamine increase.
So that means seeking discomfort can actually help you stay more motivated.
That’s it. Trying one of those can massively impact your motivation and results. Do your best!
